Banks Enter Mobile Phone Services Market

It was not long ago when the saying I’m going to the bank, meant a person was heading for the only state bank DSK to deposit a small sum. Most people also remember the inconvenience of having only one ATM machine in the neighbourhood that can be out of order or out of cash.

Internet banking sharply changed the concept of having to physically be present at a bank. One our computers and laptops – at home, in the office or in the park – we can buy a plane ticket, trainers, or transfer money to somebody else’s account.

But now banking entered our mobile phones. A stylish presentation in Sofia on 7 October announced the start of the service. The new mobile application BORIKA – BANKSERVICE is claimed to provide more security and maximum convenience in the use of bank cards.

Lubomir Cekov, CEO of BORIKA – BANKSERVICE AD, emphasized that the market now sees the first of its kind service that can run on all modern mobile phones and does not require any change in the hardware, plus it can support the bank cards of all banks that are members of the card operator’s network.

The application is called mobb and was proclaimed to be the only app on the market that does not require data entry for the cardholder and their card. Rather than on the mobile phone this information is kept only in the system of BORIKA – BANKSERVICE to whose servers the application has access via an encrypted connection. Mobb also only offers the Lock/Unlock bank cards feature, which in practice can limit physical and virtual access to one’s cards via one touch you, including access to all information functions.

Mobb payments are more secure than using the plastic cards at outlets or data entry for the card online. Mobb uses the patented technology Code of Remuneration (One Time Ticket). The code is manually entered by the cardholder or merchant instead of a PIN and it supports contactless payments via RFID chip for even greater convenience.

The application allows customers to register multiple cards, and these may be issued by different banks. The only condition for now is that these cards are of banks participating in the mobb pilot system. Currently these are Central Cooperative Bank, FIBank Investbank , Municipal Bank,Tokuda Bank, DBank and International Asset Bank.

The application is available for all major mobile platforms : iOS, Android, Blackberry OS 7 and Windows Phone 8 . Of course, mobb can be used by subscribers of all mobile operators. Also, the application does not require a change of the SIM card.

The new service offers two levels of access according to customer needs. On the one hand, these are information services : Balance, Last 5 transactions and Lock/Unlock cards. Secondly – the payment services, which the subscription can be upgrade to at any time: Payment in stores and online and Send/Receive money to/from other users mobb directly through the mobile phone.

Lubomir Cekov specified the restrictive conditions that were set to configure the system. We wanted the service to support popular mobile platforms, not requiring the users to replace their SIM card or make further physical intervention into their phone, but use widely available services for internet access – WIFI or 3G, GPRS, as well as to ensure reliable solution that does not compromise the bank payment services he added .

Mobile banking may be activated via computer (online) or through an ATM.
