Over 20 million euros is the sum that is to been invested in the programme of Maritime Port Burgas for 2014, announced last week the CEO of the company Captain Georges Dereliev. The concessionaire of the port East Burgas II, Burgas West and Warehouse Lozovo (a dry port) is now ready for participation in the project to build the gas pipeline South Stream.

In recent months, the port will prepare special sites for storage of heavy loads. Days ago were delivered two new 100-tonne mobile cranes for which the Maritime Port Burgas paid over 6 million euros. They will be used to perform the loading and unloading of pipes for the underwater pipeline.

The ship which will make the first shipment is expected to arrive between May 28 and 30. In Burgas pipes will be welded in fours as their storage will begin in September. They will have a length of 49 meters and will weigh over 40 tonnes, said Captain Dereliev. For this reason, new vehicles have been bought, as well as heavy-duty trailers, and special grip devices have been made that are required for loading and unloading operations.

Nearly 6 million euros will be invested in the purchase and installation of a propane-butane reloading facility. It will be the first of its kind in the country. So far, all imports of propane-butane in the country have been made through ports in Romania.

Last year, Maritime Port Burgas reorganized part of its capacity – cranes, machinery and storage facilities, according to a technology for loading grain. The ambition of the company is to build a modern specialized terminal specifically for this activity. Therefore in 2014 it bought and was delivered a new silo for grain, produced in the U.S., and its installation has already begun. Is planned to initially consist of three silos with a total capacity of 45 thousand tonnes.

Burgas has also started the construction of indoor storage for storing copper concentrates that Aurubis Bulgaria is shipping through the harbor. It will be located on an area of 10 acres and the concessionaire will thus ensure the proper storage of raw materials, whithough the contamination of the area in bad weather conditions.

By passing into private hands the cargo turnover through the terminals has doubled compared to the time when they were state property, representatives of Port Burgas said.
