I have the pleasure of greeting you at the twenty third ceremony of the Banker weekly newspaper for bestowing the awards "Banker of the year". Let we welcome you on behalf of the editors and to invite the editor-of chief Bistra Georgieva for a brief welcoming speech.

The outgoing 2016 was associated with huge challenges for the banking sector. The assessment of its asset quality was successfully completed, proving for the last time the stability of the industry. For this stability contributed the efforts of the management teams of all the credit institutions. Despite the market difficulties they managed to preserve both the high liquidity and to achieve remarkable for the unfavourable environment financial results. The final decision was traditionally difficult and we reached it after numerous discussions, financial results analysis and consultations with the supervisors.

The Banker newspaper carries on its tradition, preserved for almost a quarter century, to reward the managers of the financial institutions achieved the most remarkable successes through the year in establishing their companies.

There isn't a better references for a banking manager than the one to keep the leading positions of the credit institution under his management both in periods of growth and crisis. And also to preserve the stability of the bank and the thrust of its clients. There is a person who manages to cope successfully with this task in our country for almost ten years. His name is included in the annals of the modern Bulgarian banking business, while his high professionalism was judged on its merits and became a base for his rise in the hierarchy of his banking group.
For the preserved trust of the clients the Banker weekly newspaper bestows its prize “Banker of the year” for 2016 on Andrea Casini, who until last September was chief executive officer of UniCredit Bulbank and at present is responsible for the retail banking operations of the UniCredit Group in Italy.
The award hands Peter Andronov, chief executive officer of CIBANK.

Remarkable managerial experience and a hard work. These are only part of the makings, allowed a lady not just to competently managing her bank but also to protecting it from negative external impacts and to preserving its stability and market positions. All these skills were judged on their merits by the majority owner of the credit institution, who already a quarter century irrevocably entrusts its management to this lady.
For the preserved trust of the shareholders the Banker newspaper bestows the prize “Banker of the year” for 2016 on the executive officer of OBB Radka Toncheva.
The award hands Petia Dimitrova, chief executive officer of Post bank.

One of the banks with a foreign owner has not only kept stable its financial results during the years, but also emerged into one of the most profitable in our country. One person with his zeal and professionalism contributed to a considerable extent to the successes of that credit institution. That's the reason for the decision of the Banker newspaper to bestow the award "Banker of the year" for 2016 on the chief executive officer of Raiffeisen Bulgaria Oliver Roegel for efficient policy and a stable presence at the market.
The award hands Dorotea Nikolova, executive officer of DSK Bank.

The ability to manage the risk and to keep the market positions won when you aren’t among the biggest and the reliable clients are far from enough is a true challenge. For the reasonable management of the market risk the Banker newspaper bestows the prize “Banker of the year” for 2016 on Svetoslav Gavriiski – executive officer of Allianz Bank Bulgaria.
The award hands Stilian Vatev – executive officer of OBB.

Managers are the persons who outline the differences between the separate companies. For to reward their skills the Banker weekly newspaper set up and for years bestow its prizes for the most successful managers of nonbank financial institutions – investment intermediaries and management companies. The award honors the courage and the energy of the managers to making the business more competitive and profitable.
The prize for 2016 of the Banker newspaper ranking for the best management companies managers receives Katina Peitcheva – a member of the board of directors and executive officer of OBB Asset Management JSC. She is managing one of the most successful firms for asset management on the Bulgarian market. This year the company floated three more mutual funds and already has ten joint investment schemes. Moreover, with its assets of 124 mn BGN it is one of the three firms, accumulated more than ten millions leva from satisfied customers.
The award hands Madlen Mineva, chairwomen of the executive board and executive officer of Raiffeisen Asset Management (Bulgaria) EAD.

The prize for an investment intermediary with best achievements on the capital market in 2016 the Banker newspaper bestows for a third time on Radoslava Maslarska, chairwoman of the ELANA Trading JSC board of directors.
The investment intermediaries market is gradually gaining pace this year and reasonably the most active brokers ranked at the top of our classification. The winner showed a stable growth and boldness in doing business and is logically preserving its place among the leaders in the sector.
The award hands Nikolay Garnev, managing associate in Ernst and Young Bulgaria.
