"When the peak of the coronavirus crisis passes, there will be changes in the European Commission, there should be. So far, I have not heard of any European leader who has the power and take the responsibility on behalf of the entire European Union… The processes of current days could have been avoided. Poor leadership and weak EU leadership." Vice President Iliana Yotova told the BNR. According to her, at the beginning of the crisis, each country in Europe reacted individually and to itself.
"At the beginning, pan-European measures had to be taken, especially at the EU's external borders, countries like Bulgaria had to be supported, then there would not have been any problems along the transport corridors. If European finances were put into circulation, we have at least three funds that can be used to keep the economy from stalling… I agree that much faster measures have been taken here, we have outstripped a lot of countries like France, Germany, Spain. The national action plan worked much faster, "commented Yotova. She stated that the measures taken in our country have been correct.
"Everything is being done in the right direction. The important thing for us is to be conscious enough as humans… A special state of emergency law is expected to be proposed, "the vice president said. According to her, there is a lack of a more complete picture of what is happening in the country outside the big cities where there have been no cases of coronavirus yet. "What is happening in small municipalities, district centers, how are the crisis headquarters organized?" Yotova asked.
Iliana Yotova stated it is appropriate to think about a structure that analyzes the effects on the Bulgarian economy around the clock and offers timely actions. "If the framework of emergency measures had been outlined more seriously, if the signals given to the public had not changed three times during the first day, we would have avoided all the panic. There is speculation, but measures will be taken. I hope all this will be stopped, "she further commented. According to the Vice President, the institutions must be in place and guarantee that BG is a country that protects its citizens.
"The most important task is to strengthen our health system … And the available resources must be directed to the whole health system. After this crisis, all of our healthcare will come out much stronger and more stable. In such crises it is important to learn our lessons, " Yotova stressed. She added that we have to draw a conclusion as a nation: "When our society is strong and when we are holding hands, though in our minds, we will be stronger and we will be able to do it easier and faster."
