The Honorary Consul of of the Republic of Moldova, Eng. Dr. Vesselin Chipev, was awarded the Honorary Title “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the University of Food Technologies Plovdiv. The award ceremony took place in the “Horizon” hall of the University.
The rector of the institution, Prof. Galin Ivanov, read the decision of the Academic Council from October 17, 2024, to the attendees. The Council has unanimously granted Eng. Chipev’s the Honorary Title for his contribution to the development of Bulgarian industry and the enhancement of the reputation of UHT in business circles and society.
The vice-rector, Assoc. Prof. Kiril Mihalev, presented the nomination on behalf of the Initiative Committee for granting the honorary title “Doctor Honoris Causa” of UHT.
Eng. Chipev is born on March 5, 1978, in Plovdiv. He earned a Master’s degree in “Mechanization of Production in the Food and Biotechnological Industries” from the Higher Institute of Food Industry (currently UHT Plovdiv) in 2002. He has developed an exceptionally successful career in business entrepreneurship. He is the owner and manager of the company “Capital Holding Group,” which includes leading companies in various economic sectors, including the tobacco and tourism industries, real estate, and international cargo transport.
By decision of the Council of Ministers from September 30, 2015, he serves as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Plovdiv, and since 2016, he is the Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian-Moldovan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“Eng. Vesselin Chipev is among the most prominent representatives of the business community in Bulgaria. Undoubtedly, his status as our alumnus is a strong image asset for UHT, but also a basis for building a sustainable partnership with the business structures of Eng. Chipev, including companies in tourism, industrial production, and management. With his exclusive support, UHT acquired the latest generation of professional equipment for the complete outfitting of a coffee technology laboratory – the third such university laboratory in Europe. This is a significant contribution to improving the educational infrastructure at UHT, but also a key element for the future educational program in this field – Coffee, Tea, and Barista,” said Assoc. Prof. Mihalev.
He added that the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova supports and participates in numerous socially beneficial initiatives, primarily in the fields of culture and education, in both Bulgaria and Moldova. As an entrepreneur active in both countries, he supports many events related to strengthening the friendly relations between the two nations.
“I thank you for the high title and the trust you have placed in me. I hope we will continue to work as successfully as we have in the future with the University of Food Technologies,” said Eng. Chipev.
The ceremony was attended by the mayor of the “Central” district of Plovdiv, Georgi Stamenov, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Sokolov – Executive Director of the International Fair Plovdiv, Assoc. Prof. Ivo Dimitrov – representative of the mayor of Plovdiv in the Board of Trustees of UHT, former rectors of UHT – Prof. Dimitar Hadzhikinov, Prof. Georgi Valchev, and Prof. Plamen Mollov, as well as faculty members, staff, and students.
