An average of 445 euros left in the country every foreign tourist who visited the country in 2012. This is clear from the pooled data of the Central Bank on the international tourism revenue in the current account of the country, which amounted to 2.916 billion euros. Bulgaria was visited by a total of 6,540,839 foreign nationals for touristic purposes (excluding transit passengers). For 2011, the average spending came to 440 euros.
How much was spent visiting various countries, however, is difficult to say. Revenue from German tourists in 2009, according to the Central Bank amounted to 384 million levs, and a year later it was 362 million levs. More recent data are not available. Judging by the number of German citizens having visited the country, it appears that the average income per person for the years in question were respectively 519 levs and 507 levs.
Similar data are also available for the Russians. For 2009 and they have brought into the local economy a total of 146 million levs, and for 2010 the sum came to 190 million levs. Average revenue per tourist respectively was 492 levs and 502 levs.
For Romanian citizens it is known that the spend an average of six nights in Bulgaria, and per day they invest 57 euros or 342 euros for the entire stay in Bulgaria’s tourist-related facilities. Having a total of 932 thousand visitors from the northern neighbor in 2012 it can be estimated that Romanians left in Bulgaria around 318 million for the entire year.
As for the Ukrainians, the spending associated with their cross-border visits are one of the lowest – about 35 euros per day.
