For five years in Bulgaria there have been no sustainable development, gross domestic product is below the value of 2008, and half of Bulgarians are threatened by poverty, this was announced by former prime minister and founder of the rightist Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, Ivan Kostov, who introduced himself last week in his new academic light. He will oversee the Laboratory for Risk Management at the New Bulgarian University.

The research unit will prepare reports and analyzes of the risks the country is facing and will make some predictions, Kostov said. At its creation the unit involved experts from departments Business Administration, Economy, Political Science and National and International Security at the University. Mr. Kostov was clear that researchers will not afford themselves to pay tribute to any ideologies in the development of their theses and will be strictly applying international standards for risk management.

Interior Ministry head Tsvetlin Jovchev, who was among the guests, congratulated the initiators and stressed out that there will be tactical benefits for the department.

The unit plans to produce 16 reports and 15 interim analyses. At least four reports will be devoted to security risks. There will be studies of the trust in public institutions, the demographic risks, and the energy crisis.

After the event, Ivan Kostov declined to answer political questions because he had now to speak only in the terms of science, he said.

We need to see the budget for next year and then we can talk what risks are borne in the country, said Kostov. Among the guests were the current DSB leader Radan Kanev and MEP Svetoslav Malinov.
