Bulgaria's entry into Schengen will not happen in the short term, but is a question of medium and long-term work. This was stated by Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament Manfred Weber to representatives of the youth organization of Bulgarian ruling party GERB (MGERB), who are meeting in Brussels at the invitation of MEP Eva Paunova.
According to the Chairman of the EPP when Tsvetanov was Minister of Interior of Bulgaria, the confidence of a number of European capitals to our country has increased because Sofia showed it can control its borders. "But now, after a year and half of unstable control, there is no such confidence," said Weber. He pointed out that as a step in this direction Bulgaria should invest in safety.
"The Bulgarians have to realize that you are no longer new in the Union as the EU's newest member is now Croatia. You need to have confidence that you are a partner in the EU and deserve respect as such. This means that you have the responsibility to help other countries," said Weber.
He noted that the European Union has a big credibility problem with Russia. "We want to sit down and talk over the problem areas, but that only makes sense in an environment of trust, and trust is currently lacking in Russia," said Weber.
He named false statements and Russian propaganda the claims of Russia that Bulgaria will have unrealized gains of 400 million euros per year, if it fails to build the South Stream pipeline.
According to Weber, the project is not a good investment because its value has increased a lot, and it would not have been efficient. "Bulgaria has to work for genuine diversification, one that changes the sources of gas," he told the young members of GERB and gave them the example of the US and the extraction of shale gas.
